Fiverr: Why Low-End Casting Sites Are Toast
The Decade-Long Experiment Is Over
The numbers are in. The floor of the voice over industry is quickly being replaced by AI. And the platform that helped build that floor is being bowled over.
Back in 2018, I had an email exchange with a new student. They wanted to build their business via low-pay, high-volume voice over work on Fiverr. I warned them against it. Work like that trains clients, the algorithms, and your psyche to devalue yourself. It also creates potential reputational issues when you try to level up and seek representation.
In 2018, warning against using Fiverr was a matter of standards. Today, it is a matter of survival. The low-end market is quickly vanishing. Generative AI is eating the bottom of the voice over industry.

The Fiverr Voice Over Breakup
Fiverr lost over 33% of its active buyers as small spenders migrated to AI voice generators.
Buyers on the platform plummeted from 4.08 million in 2023 down to just 2.7 million in Q2 2026. That's a 33.8% drop. Small buyers no longer need human voices for genres like Explainer videos.
The 2025 and 2026 NAVA survey backs this up. We saw a 60%-75% reduction in human hiring across entry-level Explainer, eLearning modules (to teach students) and Industrial gigs (to train employees).
Fiverr saw its Q2 2026 marketplace revenue contract by 15.5% year-over-year down to $63.1 million. The company then slashed its 2026 corporate forecasts from $420 million down to about $356-$372 million.
They tried to save themselves. They embraced AI. They launched the Fiverr Go models. They rebranded as an AI-first company, but none of it stopped the bleeding. It certainly didn't prevent their 30% workforce layoff in late 2025. By mid-2026, public search interest in Fiverr had dropped by 73% compared to its 2022 peak, with its stock price plummeting over 70% as generative AI started replacing the $5 to $50 tier.
The Pivot Up-Market & The Algorithm Trap
Fiverr saw the writing on the wall. They made a desperate attempt to abandon their original five-dollar transactional gigs. They started chasing corporate enterprise buyers with project values over $1,000.
But they broke their own system in the process. Fiverr introduced massive search algorithm overhauls. They rolled out weird metrics like Success Scores. This recalibration wiped out top-tier, long-time sellers overnight. Veteran talent who spent years building six-figure incomes on Fiverr, like voice actor Chuck Fresh, woke up to find their rankings destroyed. The system started treating platform veterans like brand-new profiles.
You can't control Rented Land. If you build your Cash Flow on a platform you don't own, you are always one algorithm update away from zero revenue.
The 3 Portals of Voice Over Casting Opportunities
As working voice actors, we must balance our marketing strategies. Strive to use all 3 Portals of Voice Over casting to survive any disruptions.
Portal 1: Representation
High-value, broadcast, and ethically protected human performances still flow through legit gatekeepers. You need real relationships with agents, managers, and casting directors. They protect your rates and your rights.
Portal 2: Vetted Online Casting (P2P)
Shift away from commodity sites like Fiverr. Maintain top-tier performance on curated platforms like Voice123 for real commercial and corporate opportunities. Ignore the race-to-the-bottom sites.
Portal 3: Self-Marketing (Direct and Indirect)
Voice Seekers with real budgets of $5,000 to $50,000 don't seem to cast voice actors on Fiverr like they used to. They MIGHT respond to direct outreach, if done thoughtfully and respectfully. Direct Marketing strategies like cold emails targeting specific production companies could yield returns. Indirect Marketing strategies like social media and blogging may build your long-term authority with both the humans and the robots.
The Modern Action Plan
The era of cheap human voice over is over; the robots handle much of that work now. But the era of specialized, professional human storytelling is where the money still is.
That student from my 2018 email exchange left the voiceover industry within months of trying to scale on Fiverr. Talent who rely on platforms like that will likely meet the same fate.
A sustainable voice over business relies on a balanced approach to finding auditions. If your marketing strategy relies solely on sites like Fiverr, Upwork, Casting Call Club, etc., you won't get far.
