GKN 6/11/12 – On The Road To VOICE 2012!

Good day to you, true-believers, and welcome to this special West Coast Edition of the Good Karma Network Weekly Update! I am reporting LIVE from sunny California. Well, not live, exactly. And actually, I’m still in Dallas visiting my brother but, whatever, you get the idea…

For those of you who were wondering, yes, the airline found my lost luggage and it was dropped off. Fortunately, I packed two days worth of clothing and my toiletries in my laptop bag as a precaution and MAN did that pay off. Thanks for the tip, mom!

I need to catch up on last week before I talk about all the cooky goings-on of this week:

When we last left our hero (hero?) I was going to The 2012 Audies at the New York Historical Society on behalf of John Florian and VoiceOverXtra. My partner in crime (crime?) that night was the wonderful Jessica Cran, who helped me with the interviews and tracking the winners. BTW I Tweeted every Audie winner as they were announced and man, are my thumbs tired! Here’s a picture of us:

Ain’t she pretty? You can find the winners and hear the interviews at www.voiceoverxtra.com. Michael Showalter was the host (remember The State on MTV?) and Neil Gaiman was sitting right there. Right there, dude!

I had the privilege of interviewing Johnny Heller, Grover Gardner, Robin Whitten, Rosalyn Landor, and Edoardo Ballorini, all highly esteemed folks in the audiobook industry. After that was the after-party at the swank-tastic Hudson Hotel. I rolled in at 3AM. What an amazing experience! Just to be in the same room with some of the greatest audiobook talents on the face of the earth was both humbling and inspiring at the same time.

So now I am in Disneyland (or at least I will be in a few hours) gearing up for VOICE 2012, a conference for voice actors. I am one of the lucky presenters! My seminar will be on goals and Action Plans for voice talents. I am UBER-PUMPED to be in the company of such amazing talents, both new and old. You’ll have a full report when I get back next week…

TIP OF THE WEEK: Pack a change of clothes in your laptop bag whenever you travel!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: I left my list of quotes at home so, um, in the words of the great philosopher, uh, Platocrates?, um, don’t do stuff that, uh, sucks. How was that?

STUFF!: P.F. Chang’s Orange Peel chicken.

From somewhere in the Midwest (or the West), this is Tom Dheere, GKN News…
