An APAC-tastic Experience! – The GKN Weekly Update 6/3/14

Hello and Happy June! I always feel like June is the halfway point in the year, but it’s not until the end of June, so I gotta wait the whole month to hit that point.

Last week was a whirlwind of fun, learning, and seeing old friends at the Audio Publishers Association Conference.

This is how it went down:

Tuesday night was the Pre-APAC Mixer at Pranna in Manhattan.

The place was packed, the food was delicious as always (yeah, Firecracker Shrimp!) and it was a chance to catch up with a ton of groovy people as well as make some new friends.

Wednesday was APAC at the Jacob Javits Center. It was an all-day affair complete with an amazing keynote speaker (Alan Iny) and some very well-put-together panels with top narrators & producers sharing all kinds of sage advice. The Self-Promotion panel I was honored to be a part of was a lot of fun! Tara Sands, Robert Fass, and Deb Deyan were brilliant.

Thursday was The Audies and The Naudies. Due to some clerical issues I was not able to attend the Audies this year, but The Naudies was a blast! It was held once again at Mustang Harry’s and it was filled to the brim with narrators, publishers, producers, and Audies winners including our own Bob Souer. Congratulations, Bob!

This was my third APAC and I can comfortably say this was the best one yet. It was superbly organized and the speakers & panelists were wonderful. I took pages of actionable notes and I can’t wait to add them to my Action Plan!

TIP OF THE WEEK: So what did I learn at APAC? I’ll tell you when I publish my article for Voice Over Xtra (tease, tease). Suffice to say that I came up with ideas about how improve myself as a a narrator, a marketer, and an advocate of the audio book industry. Counting the days until APAC 2015!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

Never pass up an opportunity to use a revolving door, an escalator, or a bendy straw. Tom Dheere (BTW is it lame to quote yourself?)

STUFF!: If you’re looking for an amazing dining experience in New York, I heartily recommend Pars Grill House and Bar in Chelsea. It’s Persian cuisine at it’s finest!

From Tom Dheere’s apartment, this is Tom Dheere: GKN News…
