GKN Weekly Update 10/31/11

Good afternoon everybody! I hope you’re safe and dry. OK, what the hell happened this weekend? One minute it’s a crisp fall morning, the next it’s a freakin’ blizzard. They actually postponed Halloween. Postponed it! Try explaining that to a three-year old…

I am very excited to announce that the audiobook I narrated, “The Science of Battlestar Galactica”, released last week!

You can check it out at Audible, Amazon, or run a search at the iTunes Store.

That’s not I want to talk about, though (OK, maybe a little bit). I want to talk about the Audiobook Creation Exchange (ACX), the new branch of Audible that made this possible. The mission of ACX is to turn the 95% of printed books that haven’t been made into audiobooks, into audiobooks. The business model is fascinating and everyone I have encountered along the way has been a pleasure to work with.

I have come across a number of colleagues who are a bit skeptical about the endeavor, though. If you have any questions/concerns about ACX or wish to share your experiences, I encourage you to voice them here.  Jeff Kafer has a fascinating blog post about his experience with ACX. You can read it here.

TIP OF THE WEEK

I think it’s perfectly natural to be wary of something new. Many industries have certain ways of doing things and have been that way for as long as anyone can remember. Sometimes they change to adapt to the times and are wildly successful. Sometime they change for change’s sake and flop. I personally am always looking for new ways to do things, especially the things I’m most comfortable with. Always re-examine your regimen once in a while. Shaking things up always lead to good results!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
