The Voiceover Community Rocks! GKN Weekly Update – 9/24/13

Hello and Happy Autumn! It’s my favorite season, you know. I love cool weather and change. Most people think that since I’m so structured & organized that I wouldn’t like change but I really do. What I don’t like is chaos!

NEWS AND NOTES!

I had an AWESOME time at Uncle Roy’s annual barbeque!

I got to see lots of my fellow voiceover peeps and their charming significant others as well as gorge myself on some really good eats. The homemade sesame noodles and red velvet cookies were out of this world!

A big thank you to the folks at MCA-I for asking me to be on their “Promote Yourself!” panel. I had a great time and everyone was a pleasure!

Voiceover Virtual is over! Or is it? I’ll get back to you on that in a bit.

I had a blast being a part of the Voice Over Virtual Conference. It was fun to navigate the digital environment; hitting the Voice Plex Theater and downloading many of the 50 presentations I can enjoy anytime between now and November 30th, visiting the Exhibit Hall where I checked out all of the virtual booths, and listening to Joe Cipriano, Dave Goldberg, and George Whittam during their enlightening Q&A sessions.

My favorite part was hosting Tom’s Tiki Lounge and Food Court! For three days I sat in the Tiki Lounge chat room and conversed with dozens of voice talents and other industry professionals talking about everything from home recording studios to producing demos. I got to spend time with many of my old voiceover friends as well as make new ones.

The really good news is that Voice Over Virtual isn’t over! John Florian will soon announce all the exciting activities that will take place in the VOV environment between now and November 30th. I’ll keep you posted!

TIP OF THE WEEK: Spending all that time in the Tiki Lounge as well at attending Uncle Roy’s BBQ continues to remind me how lucky I am to be a part of of such an amazing, supportive community. Once in a while (every day, actually!) we should count our blessings and be thankful that we do what we love and we love what we do.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

STUFF!: It’s worth repeating so I’m gonna say it again. I am very fortunate to have such good friends both in the voiceover world and in my personal life. To be surrounded by people who are so positive, so  helpful, so kind, makes all the bad things that happen in life a little less bad and all the good things that much, um, gooder? GROUP HUG!!!
